OUR STORY

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. "
Confucius
These are the wise words of Confucius that inspired the founder of Beyond The Octave, Ong Wey Shi to start an academy of excellence in piping and drumming in Singapore. Although trained as an engineer, his dream profession has always been teaching bagpipes. Finally, he started Beyond The Octave on 1st March 2012, with the aim of sharing pipe band music in Singapore and Asia, with the help of a few other friends who are also passionate piping and drumming instructors.

Presently, Beyond The Octave is involved with the development of a few pipe bands, which includes Christ Church Secondary School, Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), St Hildas Secondary School and the latest Changkat Changi Secondary School, teaching both young boys and girls who are keen to learn this art. On top of promoting pipe band music, we aspire to provide quality music programmes for its students to learn a skill that will last a lifetime. In the years to come, we hope to develop many more pipe bands in various parts of Asia.
