In 2000, executive producer, director, writer and performer, Selena Tan formed Dream Academy, with the aim of creating a self-sustaining, financially viable and independent arts and entertainment company, that is accountable only to its audience. Since then, Dream Academy has grown to be arguably, the most popular and active privately owned arts and entertainment production companies in Singapore.

Unlike most other non-profit or subsidised theatre companies in Singapore, Dream Academy does not receive, or qualify for funding, under most major or regular government arts funding programmes, or from private charitable donors. Instead, we are funded almost entirely by ticket sales from our audience and our beloved loyal supporters and our Dream Champions, to whom we are extremely grateful to.

Dream Academy, not only contributes to the cultural capital of Singapore, but we also pay taxes on our income, just like any other small and medium size enterprise does.

We are proud to be one of the few Singapore production companies that manages to reach and attract an extremely diverse audience to the theatre, many of whom are first time theatre goers. We do that by producing high quality shows, that are, humorous, ironic and satirical, which allow our audiences to laugh with, and at us, and themselves.

Our broad stable of shows include the Dim Sum Dollies®, Crazy Christmas®, Broadway Beng®, and Happy Ever Laughter®.

In 2009, Dream Academy won the Life! Theatre Award for the best ensemble for an original musical, ?Sing Dollar!?.

With our constant desire to widen the breadth of our work and expose our audiences to other quality theatre shows from beyond our shores, Dream Academy has also staged some internationally acclaimed theatre productions including Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods and Company.

We recognise that, like our communities that define us, we have to constantly evolve and change to remain relevant to our audience, regardless of genre or medium, and our hope is that our work will help our audience understand Singapore and all its myriad of different communities, better.
