ENCORE FILMS was established in 2003 with the aim of bringing quality movies to the audience in the South East Asia region. Our first movie acquisition, a Korean horror WISHING STAIRS was released in Singapore theatres nationwide on 13th November 2003 with resounding success grossing S$840,000. It was the All Time Box Office Number One Korean Film for the next 3 years.
In 2006, we released DEATH NOTE TRILOGY which grossed over S$4.4 million in Singapore. DEATH NOTE 2: THE LAST NAME is now the All Time Box Office Number One Japanese Film in Singapore. In 2009, we became the exclusive distributor of Studio Ghiblis animation classics including MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO, KIKIS DELIVERY SERVICE, PONYO ON THE CLIFF BY THE SEA for Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. We will be releasing THE WIND RISES (the farewell masterpiece from Academy Award Winner, Hayao Mayazaki) in these countries over the next few months. We are currently the top distributor for Japanese content in these countries.
In addition to our creditable track record, we also released numerous blockbusters including NONSTOP, THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, A CHINESE GHOST STORY, THE LOST BLADESMAN and COLD WAR (Best Film in 32nd Hong Kong Film Award).
