History

Norstar was founded in 1998 in London initially as a ship brokerage firm. In 2001 Norstar relocated to Monaco to focus on ship owning, investment and management. Norstar Shipping (Asia) Pte Ltd was formed in Singapore in 2005 which is now the Company headquarters covering all areas of Commercial and Technical management. In 2009 technical ship management was brought ?in-house and in 2010 Norstar Ship Management was formed with the merger of Ship Management Associates and Luna, Norstars in-house technical team. Norstar Shipping USA LLC was established in Connecticut, USA in 2012. Norstars expertise is in the tanker sector.

Commercial

With over 40 years combined experience the principals of Norstar, Chris and Tom Bonehill have been actively involved in the shipping industry since 1989. The Bonehill brothers worked for major shipbroking companies (Clarksons London/Hong Kong, Arrow London, Island Shipbrokers Singapore) until Norstar UK was established in 1998 (moved to Monaco in 2001) and Norstar Asia in 2005. The Bonehills sold many ships prior to Norstar, and in Norstar alone about 450 ships with a total value of about USD 3.50 billion were transacted. Norstar stopped competitive shipbroking in 2007 to concentrate on its own ship owning and ship management activities. We uphold the same standard of market analysis and maintain all our S&P negotiating skills and knowledge of contracts. We also maintain our extensive global network of shipbrokers, shipowners and shipyards. Norstars first principal investments were made in the early 2000s. The Company has over 10 years experience in Ship owning, bank financing and owners accounting.

Technical

Norstar Ship Managements team is largely made up of the ex-in-house technical department for a well-known U.S. product/chemical tanker owner. Many of the present staff worked with this company for 17 years managing a fleet of about 20 vessels, most of which they built in Japanese shipyards. In 2010 Norstars in house ship management company integrated the team into its existing technical platform and NSM was formed. The core technical, marine and crew personnel team in NSM have worked together for almost 20 years.
